Grammy nominated artist Janiva Magness new release “Blue Again” ...powerful blues interpretations

The Grammy nominated and seven-time Blues Music Award winner Janiva Magness delivers her brand new album, Blue Again. On this release Magness returns to her taproot to cut her interpretation of a half dozen classics from the Blues canon and beyond, including numbers made famous by Bo Diddley, Freddie King, Etta James, and Nina Simone. Pairing with Producer Dave Darling, Magness and Darling have delivered a powerful Blues album that features guest appearances by Kid Ramos, Sugaray Rayford, and T.J. Norton.

“Sista Janiva’s robust and soulful voice is showering each cut with determination to make us all fall in love. Her delivery is as always sincere and straight from the heart. Soul music is alive and kicking.” – Mavis Staples

Marty's review: Janiva's interpretation of classic blues numbers delivers on all accounts with a powerful vocal delivery, tight production with some extra raunchy guitar work and an overall soulful feel that makes the album a classic in its own right.

Polly O'Keary and The Rhythm Method "Black Crow Calling"...rocking blues with a touch of soul

Polly’s eclectic blues style reflects her colorful history. She grew up in a log cabin with no electricity or plumbing and began her music career a teen working bars in Mexico. At 19 she had a husband in prison and an 8th grade education. Twenty years later, she was a bassist for touring blues bands, playing a total of four continents, was one of the Pacific Northwest’s most highly awarded blues artists, and was working toward a Ph.D.

Her fourth album features the incendiary guitar work of California Central Coast legend David Miller, as well as the technical mastery of her long time world touring partner and drummer Tommy Cook.

“Polly is a powerful singer and an able songwriter who also plays bass with a fierce strength and a convincing tone.” -Blues Hour

“O'Keary is loaded with primal force even when she's taking it easy. Not anything near your stereotypical chick bass player, she's a leader all the way, not the window dressing. Hot stuff.” -Midwest Record

“Great songs played by an unbelievable band.” -A1 Blues

Marty's review: Polly O'Keary delivers her style of blues with raunch, punch and touched with soul. A no nonsense, down the middle approach that has been honed over a number of years to produce an album that is polished yet still keeps a rawness that is essential when playing the blues. 10 all original penned tracks that deliver in all ways from Polly's earthy vocals and tight bass playing to her backing band's searing guitar licks and solid drum beats, this album is one of those that will leave you breathless.

Roots Blues and Americana powerhouse Low Society new album "SANCTIFIED"

Low Society is the brainchild of blues belter Mandy Lemons, winner of the 2015 Emissaries of Memphis Music Peoples Choice Award, and slide guitar phenom Sturgis Nikides, who recorded and toured with the legendary Rock & Roll Hall Of Famer, John Cale (of The Velvet Underground). Their first two albums have garnered critical acclaim and extensive worldwide airplay, including the enthusiastic support of B.B. Kings Bluesville on Sirius XM Radio.

Here's the eagerly anticipated follow-up to the acclaimed “You Can’t Keep A Good Woman Down”, the THIRD studio album from international Roots Blues and Americana powerhouse Low Society, SANCTIFIED. Recorded in Belgium and Memphis beginning in October of 2016.

Marty's review: "Powerhouse" is an apt description for Low Society with their brand of hard-edged Roots Blues Americana. With the gutsy, soul-drenched vocals of Mandy Lemons and the hot guitar licks from Sturgis Nikides, backed by a sterling group of seasoned musicians, the album is an all round barrel-house of sound that comes at you from all directions. Featuring 8 original songs by Nikides/Lemons, their amazing version of John Prine's "Angel of Montgomery" and the Jordan/Foster classic "I'd Rather Go Blind" originally done by Etta James. This is one for the continuous rotation list.

Chicago-based singer/songwriter Lonnie Leo debuts "Dead For A While"...soulful grooves

Lonnie Leo, a Chicago-based singer-songwriter/ guitarist/ producer sets a vivid footing in his debut album, "Painted Things". With roots in everything from Dylan to D'Angelo, LL packs pensive lyrics and lush melodies into polished, full-band arrangements with a hard-hitting urban edge.

The first single, "Dead For A While", is what I would call a catchy, soulful/gospel groove with a steady beat and Lonnie's insightful lyrics that make it a very impressive debut and showcases Lonnie's talents as a producer as well.

Hot Rod Hearse play a mix of Blues-Rock, Folk and Rockabilly

Hot Rod Hearse have the fever pretty bad. It’s caused by browsing thrift shops and apothecaries. It’s caused by devouring music and walking around in marshes. Their music is a mix of Blues Rock, Folk Rock and Rockabilly and they call their genre Thrift Shop Rock. They are based in the magical town of Wexford, Ireland.

Hot Rod Hearse will be releasing their first full album on the 14th of July 2017.

Their latest single, "Ballsbridge to Ballymun" was released on Paddy's Day 2017. They are playing some festivals over Ireland this summer, including the Free Fringe Festival in Leitrim and the Strawberry Roots Festival in Enniscorthy.

Their second single, "1973" was released in January 2017 and garnered some rave reviews. Their debut single, "There by the Road" was released in August 2016. Shortly thereafter, it was chosen as one of the Top 20 finalists in the Dublin City Rounders Alt-Country Song Contest. It has also received some very good reviews.

Hot Rod Hearse are :
Hotrod Suzi : Vocals, Washboard, Tambourine, Songwriting
Zeff Ryder : Vocals, Guitars, Bass, Songwriting

Marty's review: for a duo these guys put out a wall of sound that is tight, rhythmic and just plain hot! Suzi's vocals are sultry with raunch while Zeff's musical talents make him a very clever one-man band. The original songwriting cuts it up there with the finest as well. Grant them a listen, you will like what you here.

Romanian country blues artist Southernman Robbie album release "Devil Got My Name"

Southernman Robbie, born Robert-Cristian ZSUGYA (January 21, 1987), is a Romanian musician, singer and songwriter. He brings the roots of the country blues music with an archaic image, playing consecrated songs of the blues pioneers, but also his own written music, combining slide guitar, finger picking, vocals and kazoo that will carry you to the land of southern blues.

Throughout the years he has performed at blues festivals, blues stages and has been part of many musical projects. In 2012 he decided to take the road to the west, where he joined the stage with blues pioneers from Austria. He spent almost a year in Northern Germany, where he preached the blues for shipyard workers from cities around northern Germany. With all the experience gained in his journey, he came back home to preach the blues, and, in 2016, on the last day of February (29), released his first album called "Devil Got My Name", which features 14 acoustic blues songs. Throughout the album he offers you a well kept secret from the Deep South Danube wilderness, as an oasis of acoustic blues for souls.

In April 2017 he participated as a contestant at the European Blues Challenge 2017 edition in Horsens, Denmark.

Marty's review: Southernman Robbie takes his blues straight out of the Mississippi Delta and puts his own little spin on it without straying far from the original roots. "Devil Got My Name" is an all acoustic affair with Robbie playing acoustic guitar, harmonica and kazoo. The tracks are a mixture of original numbers and covers of traditional blues like "Love In Vain" and "Sittin' On Top of the World". His vocal delivery is with a slight twang which more than suits his style of country blues. A talent worth discovering.
