Tom Craig and Soul Patch debut album “ Get Ready For Me”..Memphis Blues with Soul

Tom Craig and drummer John O’Connell have been partners in Blues and Roots music for the past decade. This past year they’ve teamed up with Eric Johnson on Hammond organ, tenor saxophonist Vince Gleason and baritone saxophonist Skyler Hagner. Their broad musical resume includes musical genres such as classic Memphis Soul and R'n'B tunes by the likes of Wilson Pickett and Otis Redding as well as retro R'n'B music from James Hunter and Mayer Hawthorne, to name a few. Their love of the blues continues.

Tom Craig is a singer/songwriter/guitarist first inspired by jazz vocalists like Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Mel Torme; he found further inspiration in the classic '60's and '70's soul music that was recorded in Memphis and Muscle Shoals and in the blues of the Three Kings (Albert, B.B., and Freddie) as well as Muddy Waters and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

For his debut, Craig and his musical cohorts, Soul Patch, offer a sparkling collection of guitar-centric, horn-propelled, organ-cushioned originals that resonate with blues, soul, and jazz. As a singer, Craig seamlessly blends subtlety and swagger in the manner of the great jazz vocalists and as a guitarist, his clear, ringing tone and biting solos mostly evoke B.B. King. Like many of the greats who inspired him, Craig heartily understands the concept of “less is more.” His songs are a diverse bunch that include blues shuffles like “I Can't Help Myself,” a funky grinder with “Louita,” sweet swaying soul with “Ballroom Dancer,” and deep soul ballads like “Every Woman.”

"Tom Craig & Soul Patch are making the familiar fresh with grease, grit, and grace." -Thomas J. Cullen III, Bucks County Blues Society and Blues Music Magazine

Marty's review: I can't add much more than what has already been said in the above, only to say that if you like your blues with soul and the classic sounds that came out of Memphis and Muscle Shoals, then this amazing debut album will please to no end. My favorite tracks, hmmm..., all of them!! Certainly no fillers here, and the production is tight with all the passion they can muster. This is one album that will be on regular rotation.
