LA based blues-rock artist Kathleen Taylor new single releases

Kathleen Taylor is a South African singer/songwriter now based in Los Angeles. Her music is blues/rock, but she incorporates elements from the Classical and traditional African music she grew up performing.

From the age of 5, Kathleen began playing the violin and soon after began playing the piano and singing in choirs. In High School Kathleen’s musical passion extended to musical theatre and she also began playing the guitar.

Although originally intending to pursue jazz, Kathleen soon discovered blues and fell in love with the genre. Her strong and soulful voice lent itself perfectly to the genre and her voice’s natural rasp, together with the prevalence of rock culture in Los Angeles, automatically brought a rock sound to her music.

Kathleen soon began writing and recording her own music and in 2015 she began working with producer Katsuya Sezaki on her upcoming album due for release at the end of 2016. The first single from the album, "Sweet Solitude", was released on January 1st 2016.

Her second single, "A Woman’s Rage", was released on International Woman’s Day (8 March 2016). The song deals with gender discrimination, undermining and assault and the power of the emotion which it evokes within women. This is an area within which Kathleen worked closely during her time at law school in South Africa and so one about which she is very passionate. All proceeds of the song’s sale will benefit Women for Women International, an organization which
runs programs to empower women in conflict zones.

Marty's review: Kathleen Taylor belts out blues-rock with a raw passion that hits you immediately and doesn't let you go. With a voice that soars on every note, lyrics that come from within and a tight musical production, this is an artist that knows where she's going and will be more than noticed.

Canadian Singer Songwriter Dione Taylor's album "Born Free" captures Blues, Roots and Gospel

Dione Taylor is a soulful and powerful Canadian female singer/songwriter who released her new album, “Born Free” in late November 2015.

This Saskatchewan-born, Toronto-based artist has been promoting her new recording, which she calls Gospeldelic Prairie Blues, with amazing live performances and Live-To-Air TV & Radio broadcasts. “Born Free” is a personal narrative drawing upon her influences of blues, roots and gospel and has received critical acclaim and airplay on college radio across the country.

Having first burst onto the music scene with her Juno nominated debut album "Open Your Eyes", Taylor's career trajectory has been truly remarkable. With performances at festivals and concert theatres across the United States, Canada and Asia for audiences that have included the President of the United States and Queen Elizabeth II, Taylor has made a worthy name for herself as one of her country's most talented musicians and songstresses. Taylor was nominated for a Gemini Award for her rendition of Oscar Peterson's "Hymn to Freedom," which she performed alongside Oliver Jones at the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala. Taylor is also the recipient of the Governor General's Performing Arts Award Mentorship Program.

Marty's review: fans of blues and roots will eat this album up! Combining the musical elements of earthy blues and roots music with soulful gospel, Dione adds her powerful and emotional voice with heartfelt lyrics that tug at the mind and soul to produce an album that captures the listener from many directions and leaves its branded mark permanently. Favorite track of mine is the Bill Withers song, "Grandma's Hands".
